How to help struggling readers
Pam Allyn, author and executive director of Lit-World, suggests in this article 10 strategies to help struggling readers improve. Among her recommendations are to avoid judging the reader, introduce students to different reading materials, read together with students, and provide time to talk and give students reading tools, such as digital devices. Allyn also suggests allowing students to read at their level, discuss books deeply, encourage rereading, empower students to take control over what they read and get joy from reading.
