Officials with the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT have unveiled a challenge designed to help 1,000 small, rural and critical access hospitals achieve meaningful use in the next two years. The hospitals face distinct challenges including limited workforce, clinician shortage and remote geographic location, officials said. The ONC plans to give up to $30 million to Regional Extension Centers to assist providers in rural areas.
