Tenn. schools to address needs of students with health concerns
As part of an agreement with the U.S. Department of Education, the Memphis, Tenn., school district has pledged to take several steps to ensure students with health impairments -- such as food allergies, asthma and diabetes -- are evaluated for programs and services under Section 504 of federal disability law. Among the steps: Officials will notify parents of their obligations and ensure the timely identification, evaluation and placement of students who have health-related concerns that may affect major life activities.
