    Missouri's Senate leader has asked for an investigation into how Medicaid contracts worth more than $1.1 billion were awarded after Molina Healthcare sued the state, saying officials broke competitive bidding laws. The Senate Government Accountability Committee will look into the issue, and the Senate Appropriations Committee moved to prevent a limit on the number of managed-care contracts awarded.   • Bullying becomes "social norm," Ohio nurse researcher says
    The ANA's second edition of "Bullying in the Workplace: Reversing a Culture" includes ways to address the problem. Peggy Berry, a doctoral candidate at the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing, said bullying "becomes the social norm" and is passed on from nurse to nurse. She said people should be told they are bullying because they may not realize it, but cautioned nurses against retaliating against a colleague who bullies.   • OIG says U.S. nursing homes are not prepared for disasters
    The nation's nursing homes are not prepared to protect or care for residents during natural disasters, according to a report from the HHS inspector general's office. Medicare and Medicaid should add emergency planning and training to requirements for nursing home disaster plans, according to the report. Inspectors visited nursing homes in Minnesota, North Dakota and other states and found many emergency plans lacked details on treatment, transportation and medication protocols for emergencies and evacuations.
