Krispy Kreme debuts lemon pie and will add peach in June
Krispy Kreme Doughnut introduced the Glazed Lemon Pie this month at retailers. It is available while supplies last. The Glazed Peach Pie will launch in June. "The Glazed Lemon and Peach pies are the first of a new line of seasonal flavors we are excited to share with fans of our popular chocolate, apple and cherry-filled pies," said Mark LaBrecque, senior director of U.S. marketing activation. Sunkist offers meal makeover ideas
Sunkist has launched MyPlate Meal Makeover, which uses before and after photos to show how small changes can help meals comply with nutrition guidelines. "The Sunkist meal makeover program does such a great job of illustrating what a difference it can make when you follow the recommended guidelines," said Gina Widjaja, advertising and public relations manager for Sunkist Growers. PepsiCo posts 7% snack growth, 2% beverage growth
PepsiCo, which has been raising prices to counter higher commodity costs, posted a first-quarter global revenue gain of 7% for snacks and 2% for beverages. The company boosted U.S. ad spending by 25% and introduced the mid-calorie Pepsi Next in March, which CEO Indra Nooyi said has captured 1% of the U.S. market. Survey: Mother's Day spending will increase 10% this year
Mother's Day celebrants are expected to spend $163 on average this year, a 10% increase compared with 2011, totaling nearly $17.2 billion, according to a Brand Keys survey. While shoppers last year favored technology gifts such as e-readers and smartphones, "this year, they're going with more traditional gifts, including cards, brunch or dinner, flowers, jewelry and clothing," said founder and President Robert Passikoff. The GMA Associate Member Council (AMC) is accepting entries for the 2012 CPG Award for Innovation and Creativity. This award is given annually to recognize the innovation that occurs every day at GMA member companies and allows for the broad submission by manufacturer members of innovative ideas, with an emphasis on leading the industry forward.

The CPG Award will honor the creative and innovative programs of two manufacturing member-companies – one with sales below $3 billion and one with sales greater than $3 billion.

The deadline to submit applications is June 1, and the winners will be announced at the 2012 GMA Executive Conference in August.

Faster salmonella test is developed by Neogen
