Marion Nestle talks food
  
The conversation about obesity "is shifting markedly from personal responsibility to societal responsibility," nutrition professor and food advocate Marion Nestle says in this interview. She says the "food environment" influences people's food choice, eating behavior, calorie intake and body weight.

As a result, dietitians need to shift their focus from "individual education to a more public-health approach" that encompasses the food environment and how people can cope with it. She says nutrition experts also should "work to change the food environment to make it easier for people to eat better." Examples of ways to get involved include improving school lunches, getting bike lanes and sidewalks in cities, and lobbying Congress about relevant issues.

Nestle also shares her personal mantra on food and eating: "Eat less. Move more. Eat better. Get political."
