Packaging contributes to rising bath product sales
Sales of bath and shower product are projected to reach $6 billion in the next five years, according to market research firm Euromonitor International. Driving those sales are innovative products that appeal to customers through their packaging, such as Barista, which uses clear bottles and jars to showcase their products. More brands are requesting larger, unusually-shaped bottles to stand out from competitors and demand more space on store shelves, said Marny Bielefeldt, director of marketing for Alpha Packaging. Craft beer popularity increases demand for printed bottles
As more consumers in the U.K. seek out craft beers, the demand is increasing for printed bottles, glass printer Seaways Services reports. "More and more of these small, artisan breweries are turning to us to help them bottle their beers in a fresh and funky way," said Jayne Shaw, managing director for Seaways. Wash. city installs first recycling bins
Recycling bins for bottles and other recyclable items were installed last week in six spots in downtown Olympia, Wash. The bins are the first of their kind to be installed in the city and came at the request of businesses and visitors, Spencer Orman, a senior program specialist with the city?s Waste Resources department, said. "It?s as much to be able to give the public the opportunity to recycle and divert those materials ? as it is to be emphasize our overall strategy of waste reduction, waste diversion," he said. Study finds most consumers consider sustainability
About two-thirds of consumers across six countries say they try to purchase products that are environmentally friendly, according to the Regeneration Consumer Study, which surveyed more than 6,000 consumers in Brazil, China, Germany, India, the U.K. and the U.S. The study found that consumers in developing markets are especially interested in purchasing environmentally friendly products, and are more willing to pay higher prices for products that benefit the environment. Health professionals join fight against BPA
Dr. Linda Giudice and other health professionals are joining the fight to ban bisphenol A and other chemicals from being used in plastics and other common products. "By spreading the word about environmental contaminants, we can minimize exposures and keep women and their children from harm," she said during an event aimed at increasing awareness of how chemicals such as BPA can affect human health. Giudice, who contributed to research for the Program on Reproductive Health and the Environment at the University of California in San Francisco, helped create pamphlets with tips on avoiding toxins, such a storing food in glass containers instead of plastic.
