Emerging Trends & Technology
  • Hyatt to unify group billing, tracking with single solution
Hyatt Hotels and Resorts expects to launch a real-time billing technology for group events. Instead of receiving a folder with multiple invoices, groups will receive a single PDF including bills for all services. The system will let meeting planners track bills and reconcile costs daily. The company is expected to move the data to a cloud system next year. BusinessTravelNews.com (10/16) LinkedInFacebookTwitterEmail this Story
  • "Wave and go" payment system is launched at British hotel
Guests at the Langdale Hotel & Spa in England's Lake District can now spend up to 20 ($32.28) in its bars, restaurants, store or spa using "wave and go" technology -- a system that lets them make purchases by simply pressing their credit or debit card against a reader. "This is all about making life as easy as possible for our guests," said Langdale's Dan Visser of the technology, thought to be twice as quick as traditional purchase methods. Langdale is one of the first hotels in England to offer the payment service. Hotel Owner online (U.K.) (10/22) LinkedInFacebookTwitterEmail this Story

Innovation & Trends
  • Versatile tablets are on the rise among hotels
Electronic tablets are becoming increasingly popular throughout the travel industry as hospitality providers recognize their versatility -- and that includes hotels. Guests at the ITC Grand Chola hotel in Chennai, India, for example, are given tablets at check-in that can display bills, control room temperature and lights, call room service and even show who's outside the door through a camera. The InterContinental Dubai Festival City in Dubai, meanwhile, is using tablets to offer translation services to foreign guests. BBC/The Passport blog (10/11) LinkedInFacebookTwitterEmail this Story
  • Hotels are moving away mobile discount mind-set
More hoteliers are discovering a wider use for their mobile channels other than as a draw for last-minute discount-seekers, this feature says. "Hoteliers need to recognize and have a better understanding of their guests. The folks who are setting the pricing and setting the channel mix need to understand that mobile is no different than the desktop and they might not have to discount the channel," said Robert McDowell, a senior vice president at Choice Hotels International. "Facebook ads can and should be used for more reasons than to just build awareness of your hotel and grow fans. Use the ads for other objectives such as promoting special events happening at the hotel," Leveque writes. The Blue Magnet Blog (10/9) LinkedInFacebookTwitterEmail this Story
