House panel probes CMS anti-fraud efforts
CMS has had some success in rooting out fraud and abuse but has not made use of all available tools, House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee members said this week. Speaking at a hearing, a WellPoint official outlined the company's efforts to track prescriptions for controlled substances that have reportedly saved "many millions of dollars." CBO cuts cost estimate for closing Part D coverage gap
The cost to close Medicare's prescription drug coverage gap will be closer to $51 billion, rather than the previously estimated $86 billion, because closing the so-called doughnut hole will lower overall Medicare spending, the Congressional Budget Office said. Politico (5/7)
