Organics sales increased 9.5% last year
Sales of organic products rose 9.5% in 2011, to $31.5 billion, with food and drinks accounting for $29.22 billion, according to the Organic Trade Association. Report notes continued growth in food-allergy products
Research from Global Industry Analysts shows that the market for food for people with allergy or sensitivity will top $26.5 billion in the next five years. Growth will come from "increasing preference for wheat-free and gluten-free diets, advancements in diagnoses of allergies, improved labeling regulations, and also through the launch of innovative and appetizing products," the report says. Study links flavonoids to brain health
A 20-year study of more than 130,000 people found reduced risk of Parkinson's disease in those who ate foods rich in flavonoids, including berries, herbs, nuts and red wine. Kraft to unveil high-tech Diji-Taste vending machine
