Family Dollar to expand product lineup with national brands
Family Dollar plans to add about 1,000 new brands to its product lineups, including products from high-profile names such as Pepsi, Gerber and L'Oreal. The push to widen the chain's appeal also includes expanding its private-label lines and adding cigarettes and other tobacco products at 5,000 stores, the company said. Blockbuster to move HQ to Dish campus in Colorado
Blockbuster will move its headquarters from McKinney, Texas, to the Douglas County, Colo., campus of Dish Networks, which acquired the video rental retailer last year. Wal-Mart pushes to meet sustainability goals
Wal-Mart has yet to reach its goal of developing a label pointing shoppers toward sustainable choices, a process in the hands of a 90-member Sustainability Consortium. Sustainability communications director Brooke Buchanan said, "We could have set easy goals [in 2005], but we decided to set the aspirational goals to make a systemic change in our business and, hopefully, the world." NRF has named former Wal-Mart community affairs senior director Bill Thorne as its new senior vice president for communications and public affairs, effective June 1.
