Mo. governor reviews budget with health care compromises
The Missouri Legislature passed a $24 billion budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1, but Gov. Jay Nixon said he would review it before signing it into law. Among the compromises in the bill, lawmakers agreed to fund a health care program for the blind, and casino entrance fees will go toward seven nursing homes for veterans. Molina Healthcare's suit against Mo. over Medicaid is dismissed
A state judge in St. Louis threw out a Molina Healthcare of Missouri lawsuit over the bidding process for a Medicaid managed-care program. Officials with Molina, which did not win a contract, said an appeal was possible. Senior Judge Bernhardt Drumm ruled the complaint lacked factual and legal basis. Minn.'s job vacancy rate for nursing has declined
In Minnesota, the job vacancy rate for registered nurses was about 7% in 2002, but that has declined as new graduates launch their careers. Data from the state's Department of Employment and Economic Development show about two job openings for every 100 employed RNs, which is on par with vacancy rates in other sectors. Salary survey breaks down averages for RNs, NPs by region
The Physicians Practice 2012 Staff Salary Survey found that nurse practitioners have the highest average salaries among nurses in the U.S. The report examines average RN salaries for different job functions and regions of the U.S. Medscape (free registration) (5/11)

Neb. study shows disparities in health care for minority women
The Nebraska Women's Health Equity Report found the state's minority women are in worse health and have less access to care than white women. Researcher Liliana Bronner of the University of Nebraska Medical Center said mammograms were less common among black women, and Hispanic and Native American women were less likely to have personal physicians. Transitions program helps young patients move to adult care
The Transitions program at The Children's Hospital at the University of Oklahoma Medical Center helps young patients with chronic diseases go from pediatric to adult health care. Nurses and physicians teach children, teens and young adults about their diseases and medications and even tutor those who miss a lot of school because of the time they spend in the hospital.
