ADA President-elect Dr. John E. Anderson looks ahead to 2013
I continue to be struck by two glaring deficiencies that require attention if we expect to alter the course of the diabetes epidemic. The first is the continued underfunding of diabetes research at NIH, now a decades-old disparity that limits the innovations and potential breakthroughs in prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and ultimately a cure for diabetes. Also, as we look toward the continued implementation of the Affordable Care Act during 2013, we need to move quickly to address the critical workforce issues that may undermine access to care.
From the scientists doing bench research and conducting clinical trials, to the endocrinologists and experts in clinical care, to the providers of primary care, we stand as one Association committed to the concept of a "life free of diabetes and all its burdens."
