Minn. lawmakers to reconcile dental lab registration bills
Laboratories in Minnesota that make dental pieces such as crowns and dentures will be required to register with the state, disclose the materials used and where the products were made under legislation passed by the House and Senate. An optional certification that involves additional training and stricter facility standards might be dropped from the reconciled bill, said Gary Iocco, president of Dimension Dental Design. Dental group says Medicaid cuts won't save money in Ill.
Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn's proposal to eliminate Medicaid dental coverage for adults will simply shift costs as patients turn to hospital emergency departments for needed care, Illinois State Dental Society President Greg Johnson says. "The patients are going to get maybe pain medication, maybe some antibiotics. But you don?t treat the condition; you cover it up for a while," Johnson said. Access Dental works with Calif. to improve Medicaid access
Since reports of low Medicaid dental service utilization in Sacramento County, Calif., dental plan provider Access Dental has worked with state officials to improve the managed care program, according to CEO Reza Abbaszadeh. Plan representatives are visiting dental offices to understand and correct shortcomings, and state officials are more engaged, have begun articulating their goals and have discussed how plans can improve outcomes, Abbaszadeh said.
