Kennametal launches campaign to hire more veterans
Kennametal has hired four military veterans since July and plans to hire 50 more by the end of June 2013. "Military veterans create a pipeline of talent for now and in the future. Their advanced technological skills and proven leadership abilities are highly transferable for careers in manufacturing," Judith Bacchus, the company's vice president and chief human resources officer, said in a written statement. Briggs & Stratton to buy Brazil equipment maker for $60 million
Briggs & Stratton says it will buy Brazilian outdoor power equipment maker Companhia Caetano Branco for $60 million. The deal is slated to become final within three to four months. "This acquisition brings two great companies with incredible brand strength together," said Todd Teske, chairman, president and CEO of Briggs & Stratton and a member of MAPI's executive committee. Business groups to Washington: You're "playing with nitroglycerin"
Business leaders are turning up the heat on Congress and the administration to find a solution to the nation's debt crisis and avoid the "fiscal cliff." The Business Roundtable and the Campaign to Fix the Debt are running ads warning of the consequences of inaction. IEA: U.S. will be world's top oil producer by 2020
A shale oil boom will put the United States in the top spot over Saudi Arabia as the world's largest oil producer by 2020, according to the International Energy Agency's World Energy Outlook. OPEC recently projected that the U.S. will import less than 2 million barrels of oil daily in 2035, a decline of almost 75%. The Wall Street Journal (tiered subscription model) (11/12)

Brazil, India to round out top 5 destinations for U.S. exports by 2030
Canada, Mexico and China will continue to be the top export destinations for U.S. companies, but Brazil and India will replace the U.K. and Germany in the top five by 2030, an HSBC Commercial Banking survey reported. U.S. exports to India will grow 12% annually between 2016 and 2020, and 10% annually between 2021 and 2030, according to the report. The survey also reported that trade confidence among U.S. executives has fallen slightly, but 48% of exporters and importers said they think their trade volumes will rise. IndustryWeek (11/12)
