Report: Immigrant students in Europe benefit from language immersion

Immigrant students in Europe scored higher on international exams when immersed in their host country's language alongside non-immigrant students, according to a report released by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. However, the findings have drawn criticism from some who suggest that immigrant students should be taught separately in their native languages. The Hechinger Report (21 Dec.)

About 52% of teachers in Indian and Pakistani schools in the United Arab Emirates are unsure whether students with disabilities should be taught in mainstream classes, according to a survey of teachers at 13 private schools. Canada chooses national typeface that includes First Nations

Canada recently unveiled a typeface that represents its official languages -- French and English -- and the languages of First Nations tribes in honor of the country's 150th anniversary in 2017. Type designer Raymond Larabie created the typeface, called "Canada 150," to include letters from the Cree, Inukitut and Ojibway languages, and uses regular and light weights. Quartz (16 Dec.)
