  • Experts discuss neuropathic pain management
Doctors who treat painful wounds may prescribe gabapentin for patients with neuropathic pain, but the patient's response and potentially adverse reactions must be closely monitored and documented, four wound care experts said. Pregabalin, amitriptyline, duloxetine or venlafaxine may also be prescribed alone or in combination, and topical analgesics often work without unpleasant side effects. Opiods may also be effective, but doctors must take precautions to ensure the drugs are not abused. Podiatry Today magazine (1/2013) LinkedInFacebookTwitterEmail this Story

Stroke survivors in the "late-chronic phase" who received hyperbaric oxygen therapy experienced improvements in brain activity, and some regained lost skills, researchers in Israel said. The improvements remained in evidence two years after therapy ended. The 59-patient study was published in the journal PLoS One. HealthDay News (1/23) LinkedInFacebookTwitterEmail this Story
