    Scientists at Stanford University have developed a tool called OScan that attaches to a cellphone with a camera and transmits oral scans to a dental health professional.   • Study links poor oral health with increased dementia risk
    Patients with few teeth who do not wear dentures are at higher risk for dementia than those with at least 20 teeth or those with few teeth who do wear dentures, according to a study published in Psychosomatic Medicine. Periodontal disease might increase levels of inflammatory markers involved in the pathogenesis of dementia, or poor nutrition resulting from tooth loss and an inability to chew might bring on dementia, the study authors wrote.   • Michigan State professor, Delta Dental work on oral cancer test
    Delta Dental of Michigan's Research and Data Institute is working with a Michigan State University professor to develop a saliva test that detects biomarkers for oral cancer in people who have white oral lesions. Most lesions are benign, and a simple test would allow dentists to identify malignant lesions without subjecting the patients to invasive biopsy, professor Barry Wenig said.
