For the past 100 years, people who have wanted to lose weight have focused on calorie counts, but research and experts say it may not be an accurate measure and is just one tool to use in a process that should focus more on balanced nutrition. Dietitian Cara Anselmo says weight loss is not just a function of calories in and calories out because people burn calories at different rates and hormones also affect the process.
