  • Study: One-third of fish samples mislabeled
    A third of fish samples collected from 674 retail establishments in 21 states were determined to be mislabeled relative to U.S. Food and Drug Administration guidelines, Oceana reports. "With lagging federal oversight and minimal government inspection despite rising fish imports, and without sampling along the supply chain, it is difficult to determine if fraud is occurring at the boat, during processing, at the wholesale level, at the retail counter or somewhere else along the way," according to the organization.   • NAOOA files suit over alleged misbranding of olive oil
    The North American Olive Oil Association filed suit Feb. 6 against The Gourmet Factory, charging it with "deceptive misbranding" of its Capatriti brand of 100% olive oil, which the NAOOA says is low-grade pomace oil.
