- Study explains mechanism behind overeating
Participants in a small study reported an urge to keep eating after becoming full when they were presented with their favorite food. Blood tests showed that their ghrelin levels increased and stayed high for as much as two hours when they ate their favorite foods. The results suggest that the body may be programmed to chemically reward itself when exposed to sumptuous meals, researchers said. HealthDay News

- Device could evaluate food quality with smartphone
Researchers in Germany say they've created a device smaller than a sugar cube that can be installed in smartphones and be used to evaluate food quality. The device, which could be ready for the market in three to five years, would measure protein, fat, water and other components, and recommend whether or not to purchase a product.
