  • Congress hears calls for more robust FDA oversight of cosmetics
    Cosmetics-industry representatives asked Congress this week to grant broader regulatory authority to the Food and Drug Administration instead of relying on varying state standards.   • Rule on hazard labeling, communication finalized by OSHA
    The Occupational Safety and Health Administration offered a final rule this past week on hazard communication and labeling. The program, published on Monday, will take effect after 60 days and will be phased in through mid-2016. "The effective dates will be Dec. 1, 2013, to train employees on new label elements and the format, and that's because right now they're already seeing these new labels," said David Michaels, an assistant secretary of labor.
