  • Jacksonville courses stop offering play instead of pay
    Some golf clubs in Jacksonville, Fla., are putting a swift end to the old practice of using rounds of golf as payment for some employees amid a government crackdown that forced the Golf Club of Fleming Island to pay more than $73,000 to 19 people last fall. Michael Young, the Jacksonville district director for the Labor Department’s division of Wage and Hours, says the practice has always been illegal, and the government can investigate infractions from up to three years ago if courses don't cooperate.
