  • Digital drives growth at holding companies
    The world's five largest agency holding companies outperformed the U.S. ad-spending market because of their direct involvement in digital media, per a Pivotal Research study.     The chairman of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers said the organization would review its conflict-of-interest policies in the wake of a controversy over a past chairman. ICANN came under criticism after it was revealed that former Chairman Peter Dengate Thrush had a role at a firm that stood to benefit from the planned expansion of top-level domains.     An advertising stunt and not a hot new interactive service is the talk of the South by Southwest Interactive festival. BBH Labs deployed a team of homeless people in Austin, Texas, (in partnership with a local shelter) to tote around 4G MiFi, creating temporary hotspots for festival attendees. Many bloggers wrote that they thought the effort was crass and exploitative. Mitchell Gibbs, director of the local shelter disagreed, saying: "It's an employment opportunity, regardless of who is offering it."
