Survey: Record enrolment reported at UK independent schools
Private schools in the UK are enroling a record number of students, according to a survey by the Independent Schools Council. Findings also show fewer British residents are studying in independent schools, while there has been a 33% increase since 2008 in the number of students from overseas, primarily from China and Hong Kong. Toronto board proposes school offering 4 languages
The Toronto Catholic District School Board in Canada has proposed a multilingual elementary school that would teach students up to four languages daily. The programme would use a European language immersion model to teach French, German, Mandarin and Spanish. If approved, the school would be the first of its kind in Ontario. The importance of positive language for school leaders
To be effective, school leaders must use positive and direct language and be deliberate in complimenting teachers and staff and encouraging students, writes Dan Kerr, intermediate school principal at Academia Cotopaxi American International School in Quito, Ecuador. France plans to change a policy that allows students to study two foreign languages in secondary school. Typically, students choose English and German.
