  • Intel exec envisions a world with thinner laptops
    A top executive at Intel is promoting an internal project aimed at creating an ultra-thin laptop to house the company's fourth-generation Haswell chip. Dadi Perlmutter, the chief architect of Intel's mobile computing platforms, says the concept device will have a thickness of less than a centimeter. "I've been challenging the team to go figure it out. This is a concept platform, this is not a real platform, but this is how thin I would like it to be, and I would like to fit a Haswell into it," he said.   • Senate committee to consider electronic privacy laws
    The Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to consider an update to two decades-old electronic privacy laws. Chairman Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., said he will attach measures that would update the 1986 Electronic Communications Privacy Act to a bill that would update the Video Privacy Protection Act. "The explosion of cloud computing, social networking sites, video streaming, and other new technologies in the years since, require that Congress take action to bring our privacy laws into the digital age," Leahy said in a statement.
