- PEZ CEO: cost of sugar has inflated to a level it shouldn't be
Candy-makers and other companies are calling for increased low-tariff or duty-free imports of sugar as the adjustment period for government trade restrictions draws near. "I'm now paying between 55 and 58 cents a pound [for refined sugar], pretty amazing when you look at the pricing in Europe at approximately 40% to 50% less," Joe Vittoria, CEO of PEZ Candy, said. - "Antioxidant" is too generic, professor says
The term "antioxidant" is too generic and should be banned from food labels in favor of detailed nutrient information, said professor Carl Keen of the University of California, Davis. NCA hosts reception for key sugar reform advocate on Capitol Hill
The NCA PAC hosted Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) for an event on March 28 to thank her for her leadership on Sugar Reform. Sen. Shaheen is the co-author with Sen. Kirk (R-Ill.) of the S. 25 Bill SUGAR – Stop Unfair Giveaways and Restrictions Act of 2011. She has been a champion for sugar reform and understands that reforming the program means jobs.
