- Good Cheer: Another successful operation
More than 100 pilots volunteered to fly 13,521 presents donated to Operation Good Cheer for foster children in Michigan. Flights crisscrossed the state making deliveries to 18 airports where volunteers ferried the packages to their final destination. The volunteer project was started in 1971 by an employee of Ford Motor Co. Detroit Free Press

- GAMA: Q3 bizjet deliveries remained mostly flat
The General Aviation Manufacturers Association released statistics showing that third quarter business aircraft deliveries made very little recovery. "What we heard from our customers recently at AOPA's summit and NBAA's convention indicates that purchase decisions continue to be delayed due to fiscal uncertainty in our North American and European markets," said Pete Bunce, GAMA's president and CEO. - A new place to land your helicopter in Va.
After a new law was passed by the General Assembly of Virginia prohibiting banning landings by non-commercial helicopters, the Williamsburg City Council plans to hold a public hearing on Dec. 13 about where helicopters will be allowed to land. Private helicopter landings were previously unheard of in Williamsburg, but a new ordinance will allow single helicopter landings in specified areas. The Virginia Gazette (Williamsburg)

- Momentum is increasing for performance-based navigation
At the International Civil Aviation Organization's PBN Symposium in Montreal this past fall, 110 nations committed to implementing a national performance-based navigation plan. The move will require most operators to invest in new avionics equipment by 2016. PBN offers benefits to pilots as well as to others including controllers, airports and their non-flying neighbors.
