  • Nursing job market tougher for new grads, experts say
The health care industry has been driving job growth in the U.S. since the recession, but many recent nursing-school graduates are still having trouble finding jobs, observers say. Health care providers commonly post job descriptions that rule out candidates with no experience, which makes job hunting more difficult for recent grads. Some experts say the job prospects for young nurses should get better in the next few years as the demand for health care services grows. CNNMoney (1/14)
  • Governors' report supports expanding NPs' scope of practice
Nurse practitioners and physicians offer comparable quality of care in terms of patient satisfaction, prescribing accuracy, preventive education and time spent with patients, according to a review of the literature by the National Governors Association. Keochareon, who died weeks later of pancreatic cancer, encouraged nursing students to spend time at her bedside, ask questions and examine her so that they had more than a textbook education on palliative and hospice care. Pakieser, who works at the Traverse City VA Outpatient Clinic, was an advocate for a proposed scope-of-practice bill.
