  • Omaha tribe's new casino facility in Iowa opens
    A new facility that replaced the Omaha Tribe of Nebraska's flood-damaged CasinOmaha has opened. The 6,800-square-foot gaming space was rechristened as the BlackBird Bend Casino. BlackBird CEO Bill Walsh said customers and workers were pleased by the opening of the new facility. "The tribal members here, they want to work. They want to earn money for their family, and even the non-tribal members, they worked so hard to get things done and we wouldn't even be open if it wasn't for the employees," Walsh said.   • Chippewa tribe wins court fight against Duluth, Minn.
    The Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa doesn't have to make a back payment of $14 million in casino revenue to Duluth, Minn. "We will have to go back to the district court, Judge [Susan] Nelson, but she has more options before her now. We are glad that the band's position has been affirmed again," said Karen R.
