- HHS grants conditional approval to 8 more state exchanges
HHS gave conditional approval to health insurance exchange applications from California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Vermont and Utah. A federal-state partnership exchange is planned for Arkansas. In total, 20 states have been given conditional approval to run health insurance exchanges. USA Today

- More employers turn to self-insured plans
Large private-sector companies are increasingly embracing self-insured health plans, according to the Employee Benefit Research Institute. Fifty-nine percent of employees with health benefits were covered by self-insured plans in 2011, compared with 41% in 1998, an EBRI report found. BenefitsPro.com
