  • Did Obama's speech overlook small businesses?
Some business advocates say President Barack Obama's State of the Union address was light on details about how to help small companies grow. Obama did mention the complexity of the tax code, but he didn't discuss the difficulty small businesses are having in getting the capital they need, according to this article. Additionally, Obama proposed increasing the federal minimum wage -- an idea that doesn't necessarily thrill business advocates. • IFA's policy platform includes tax reform, business lending
Before President Barack Obama gave his State of the Union address, IFA unveiled a policy platform focused on topics such as tax reform, the impact of the health care law and small-business lending. "Washington should address the fundamental challenges facing our economy that are holding back growth in our sector such as out-of-control government spending, the complexity of the tax code, our out-of-date immigration system and the costly and onerous aspects of the Affordable Care Act," IFA president and CEO Steve Caldeira said.
