  • How to promote your business on LinkedIn
LinkedIn, which has a user base that is generally affluent and educated, can be an attractive platform for marketing your company, Monika Jansen writes. You can make your promotional efforts more effective by logging on to LinkedIn regularly, participating in groups and advertising on the site. "I'm going to go out on a limb and say that LinkedIn is a better place to advertise than Facebook, because LinkedIn users are highly encouraged to complete their profiles," she writes. • Using e-mail to enhance your sales efforts
Sales representatives use e-mail for a variety of purposes, such as sending proposals, asking questions and supplying links to testimonials, writes Dave Kurlan. ToutApp, which allows users to monitor how recipients interact with their messages, is a useful tool for making the most of e-mail, he writes. If recipients aren't answering your e-mails, that gives you a good idea of what they think about your service, he notes. (3/11) LinkedInFacebookTwitterEmail this Story

  • Where do state benchmark plans stand?
According to a Commonwealth Fund report, 24 states plus the District of Columbia have selected a benchmark plan for public exchanges and the individual and small-group markets, with 19 using current small-group plans and five opting for HMO or state worker benefit plans. Elsewhere, the largest small-group plan available in the state will serve as the benchmark. AHIP President and CEO Karen Ignagni has noted that while insurers like the flexibility offered to states on setting benchmarks, the minimum standards "will still require many individuals and small businesses to purchase coverage that is more comprehensive and more expensive than they choose to purchase today." • Study finds broad consumer interest in exchanges
A study from J.D. Power and Associates shows widespread interest in shopping for insurance through exchanges. Close to three-quarters of people who buy their own insurance say they are likely to purchase coverage from a public exchange. Forty-eight percent of health plan enrollees overall demonstrated interest in shopping through an exchange, and those insured through work were more likely to indicate interest if not given a choice of coverage through their employer. • Lawmakers from both parties offer 10-year spending plans
House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, R-Wis., on Tuesday offered a 10-year budget plan that would partially privatize Medicare and repeal the Affordable Care Act. Senate Budget Committee Chairman Patty Murray, D-Wash., said a competing 10-year spending plan to be announced today would raise taxes by almost $1 trillion and put almost $100 billion toward creating new jobs.
