• Optovue scores 510(k) clearance for OCT system database
  Optovue has been cleared by the FDA to incorporate a normative database into the firm's iVue spectral-domain optical coherence tomography device. The iVue SD-OCT technology can use the database to enable the quantitative comparisons of the optic disc and other areas of the eye, as well as tailor OCT scans according to a patient's age, optic disc size and other factors. • T-rays could give see-through ability to cancer-finding smartphones
  A California Institute of Technology professor has developed T-ray chips that use terahertz waves to look through plastic, wood and other materials, which might enable smartphones to help detect skin cancer in human tissue. • Workgroup seeks alternative approaches to stage 3 MU measures
  The Meaningful Use Work Group of the Health IT Policy Committee has started working on alternative approaches that could make stage 3 MU more focused on outcomes instead of process measures. Workgroup Chairman Dr. Paul Tang said stage 3 might be a good place to pause as providers work to catch up with stage 1 and stage 2 requirements, and that stage 3 could emphasize aspects that need to advance, including patient engagement and interoperability. • Take the WEDI ICD-10 Progress Survey
  The Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange (WEDI) is conducting a survey of ICD-10 preparedness. The questions are geared toward an organization's status and how the one-year delay affected plans. The information will be used to inform WEDI, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and other organizations about the state of ICD-10 readiness. It also can help plan how to assist vendors, health plans and health care providers in meeting the Oct. 1, 2014, deadline. All types of health care organizations are encouraged to participate in the WEDI ICD-10 Progress Survey online. The survey closes Feb. 20.
