RedOwl, a Baltimore-based cybersecurity analytics company, will become part of Raytheon-owned Forcepoint, a content security and data protection company. Forcepoint said it will take over RedOwl's local office and possibly expand operations there.
Machfu, a Germantown, Md.-based internet of things startup, has raised $1.6 million in its first round of financing, led by Blu Venture Investors. Machfu plans to use the funds to boost its presence in several markets, including smart grids, smart water, and oil and gas.
A round of equity financing has brought in $16 million for BrainScope, a Bethesda, Md.-based company that makes mobile, noninvasive medical devices for the assessment of traumatic brain injury. Indianapolis-based Engineered Medical Systems entered into a partnership with the MVR Co. of Maryland to build the Factory medical device manufacturing space and the LaunchPort accelerator in Baltimore. The Food and Drug Administration has issued a voluntary recall of about 465,000 pacemakers manufactured by Abbott that could be vulnerable to security breaches. A software update that takes about three minutes is available to mitigate the issue, the manufacturer says.
