Weakening demand prompts chipmakers to slice inventory
A weak market landscape prompted chipmakers, including Intel, to reduce semiconductor inventory in the fourth quarter, resulting in a 5% decrease worldwide, IHS says. EMC, VMware embark on collaborative spinoff venture
EMC and VMware are launching a joint tech venture, called Pivotal, which the vendors expect will generate $1 billion in revenue by 2016. IBM lab aims to help other companies' chiefs
IBM says its new Customer Experience Lab and a consulting effort are intended to help other companies' leaders better understand technologies and their employees and customers. Business chiefs, White House discuss cybersecurity
Top executives, President Barack Obama and White House security advisers met Wednesday to discuss cybersecurity, potential strategies and legislative options. "I think we all agreed -- and that included the administration and the president -- that we want as light a government touch on this as possible," said David Cote of Honeywell International. "... The threat is real. ... There is a consistent, persistent threat here that we need to be concerned about as a country." Report: Cyberattacks demand greater attention
Cyberthreats are a greater danger to the U.S. than terrorist activities are, and preventing them is getting more challenging every day, an intelligence report says. "In some cases, the world is applying digital technologies faster than our ability to understand the security implications and mitigate potential risks," James Clapper, director of National Intelligence, told lawmakers in the report.
