- American will add flights to meet revenue goals
American Airlines will meet its goal of generating $1 billion in revenue by adding flights, Chief Commercial Officer Virasb Vahidi said. - Southwest Airlines extends Sabre contract
Southwest Airlines has extended its contract with Sabre for reservation-system services. The carrier had previously considered switching reservation systems, but cited its merger with AirTran Airways for keeping Sabre. The Green Skies of Peru project is a partnership between GE Aviation, Peruvian carrier LAN and government agencies in the country. The project is testing navigation technology from the U.S. that saves aviation fuel. - Drones could fly in commercial airspace under new law
A new law will allow civilian drones to occupy the same airspace as commercial jetliners. Some critics have raised privacy and other concerns, but supporters point out that drones already fly in military airspace and other areas. "We're operating [drones] on the border, and law enforcement uses them," Rep. Sam Graves, R-Mo., said. "We have practice flights when we're training in the Army and Air Force," said Graves. "We're surveying the border a lot with them because they could stay up there for hours and hours and circle the same spot." KSPR-TV (Springfield, Mo.)

- KLM tests program that uses social media to choose seatmates
Dutch carrier KLM is testing a program that allows people on Facebook or LinkedIn to choose seatmates on fights, based on data from their social-media profiles. "For at least 10 years, there has been this question about serendipity and whether you could improve the chances of meeting someone interesting onboard," said Erik Varwijk, a managing director in charge of passenger business at KLM.
