  • Lufthansa will retrofit aircraft with seat-centric IFE
    Lufthansa German Airlines has signed a contract with the IMS Co. to reftrofit aircraft with IMS' RAVE seat-centric in-flight entertainment system. The installation will take place on 80-plus aircraft in Lufthansa's wide-body fleet and will start in early 2013. IMS CEO Joseph Renton said seat-centric IFE provides airlines with a system that is "low cost, low weight, low power, high functionality."   • Oneworld alliance rolls out more Global Support centers
    The oneworld alliance opened a Global Support center at Sydney Airport this year to help alliance members ensure smoother flight transfers and minimize missed connections. With success there, oneworld is testing another center in Tokyo and has plans to open one in Hong Kong this year. "The main focus is on transfers disrupted for any reason, missed connections and failed through-check-ins," said Michael Blunt, oneworld's vice president of corporate communications.   • JetBlue gets approval to expand JFK terminal
    The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey's Board of Commissioners on Thursday approved a plan that will allow JetBlue Airways to expand at John F. Kennedy International Airport. JetBlue will create a new international arrivals area in Terminal 5, which will expand the terminal by 145,000 square feet. The project is expected to cost more than $200 million.
