- GE will sponsor "30 Rock" tribute ads despite being a comic foil
General Electric is going to salute the NBC show "30 Rock" with a tribute montage, despite the show's having frequently poked fun at its previous owner. The campaign is part of an initiative by GE to create spots that reference trending ideas and have more relevance. In past seasons, Verizon Wireless, Kraft and Snapple bought into "30 Rock" with product placement deals in which the brands were ribbed within the show. Advertising Age (tiered subscription model)

- Google submits mysterious plan for wireless experiment
Coming after its launch of a neighborhood wireless network in New York, Google is now seeking approval for an experimental network for a two-mile radius encompassing its headquarters in Mountain View, Calif. Speculation around the move centers on the possibility that Google wants to develop super-fast wireless connections elsewhere, although the frequencies it's requesting aren't compatible with most devices sold in the U.S. "Those frequencies ... could be important in the future because mobile operators in China, Brazil and Japan already are building wireless networks using them," write Amir Efrati and Anton Troianovski of The Wall Street Journal.
