  • PET can help monitor insulin production, study shows
Researchers using a radiotracer to target a protein linked to insulin expression in pancreatic beta cells found that radiotracer binding was 40% less in patients with type 1 diabetes than in control participants. The finding indicates that the PET method can be used to track the loss of insulin-producing islet cells, which leads to diabetes, according to the study published in the Journal of Nuclear Medicine. The discovery could also lead to the development of new therapies to improve insulin production. MedicalXpress.com/News release (6/1) LinkedInFacebookTwitterEmail this Story
