  • Liver spots can mimic melanoma
Seborrheic keratoses, or liver spots, are benign, superficial skin growths that are light brown to dark brown or black, writes Minnesota dermatologist Dr. Frank Bures. • Scientists find a potential genetic pathway for skin cancer
Researchers from the Mayo Clinic, Translational Genomics Research Institute and Arizona Cancer Center identified a gene that was absent in early-stage and advanced forms of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma. They say the findings may someday help determine patients' genetic risk for developing cSCC and indicate whether the skin cancer could become aggressive and spread.
