February is banner month for U.S. airlines' on-time performance
U.S. airlines reached their destinations on time at a record rate of 86.2% in February, compared with 74.5% in February of last year. The data from the Department of Transportation also show that 99.7% airline passengers received their bags on time. "A combination of systematic airline operational improvements and mild winter weather delivered strong results in all DOT consumer metrics," said Nicholas Calio, president and CEO of Airlines for America. United Express contracts with American Eagle for ground handling

Cargo planes transport live animals around the world
Transporting animals such as prized racehorses is a small, but lucrative, segment of the $66 billion air-cargo industry. Lufthansa, Air France-KLM Group and Emirates offer cargo flights specially designed to carry live animals. Boeing's spacious-looking Sky Interior was added to the next-generation 737-800 delivered to Garuda Indonesia. The event marked the 300th time Boeing has installed the popular Sky Interior. The average fuel cost for U.S. airlines continued to climb in February, Department of Transportation data show. Fuel cost U.S. airlines $2.98 a gallon in February, compared with $2.77 a gallon for the same month last year. EU should rethink emissions-trading scheme, FAA official says
A Federal Aviation Administration official said the European Union should reconsider its emissions-trading scheme. "I think that rather than being a steppingstone, I think it is a major impediment in moving forward in addressing aviation in the global outlook," said Julie Oettinger, assistant FAA administrator for policy, international affairs and the environment. Export-Import Bank should drop aircraft lessors, Delta says
Delta Air Lines has suggested that the Export-Import Bank of the United States drop aircraft lessors as clients. "Many of these companies are investment grade and among the most profitable in the world, so they don't have a problem financing whatever they want to finance," said Richard Anderson, CEO of Delta Air Lines. TSA screening program for older travelers could reach South Fla.
The Transportation Security Administration is considering expanding a passenger screening program for older travelers to airports in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach, Fla. Value of agent-booked air tickets rises 6.57%, ARC reports
ARC's report for the first quarter shows the value of airline tickets booked by travel agents rising 6.57% against the same period in 2011, and 18% compared with 2010.
