- Now batting for Verizon FiOS: Yanks, Mets on HD over VOD
Verizon Communications said it will televise New York Yankees and Mets baseball games on HD at no additional charge as part of FiOS TV's video-on-demand service under a new affiliation deal with the YES Network and SNY in the tri-state area. FiOS said it was the only local provider to put the networks' HD feeds on an advanced VOD platform. Multichannel News

- Qwest leader Mueller resigns from CenturyLink board
Ed Mueller, the head of Qwest Communications during its sale to CenturyLink, will leave his board of directors post from the telecom May 23, one year before his term expires, CenturyLink disclosed in a regulatory filing. He ran Qwest for four years and joined the CenturyLink board after the merger in April 2011. The Denver Post

- Working group awaits IEEE approval of EPON Over Coax standard
A telecom-industry study group is hoping a new standard it is backing for running Ethernet Passive Optical Networking signals over hybrid fiber-coax architectures will receive formal recognition by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers by July. The standard, EPON Over Coax -- which is being championed by the EPoC working group -- would enable cable operators to provide consistent high-speed capacity to end-users and would be compatible with existing 1G EPON and 10G EPON protocols. - Survey finds many with Web access in Ill. don't go online
A large number of Illinois residents do not use the Internet even though they have access to at least basic broadband service, according to an ongoing survey conducted by Broadband Illinois, a nonprofit partnership set up to spur access and use of broadband services. The group found about one-third of respondents -- which includes residents, small businesses and institutions -- with service don't go online. The State Journal-Register (Springfield, Ill.)
