  • How effective storytelling drives the sales process
The best salespeople tend to be talented storytellers who can use anecdotes to illustrate how customers could benefit from using your company's services or buying its products, writes Bob Apollo. It's a good idea to have salespeople share stories with one another and to coach them about how to properly relay these anecdotes to customers, he adds. • Is your digital marketing achieving your desired results?
You should regularly assess your digital marketing efforts to ensure that your outreach is effective, writes Jennifer Shaheen of The Technology Therapy Group. You should ensure that your e-mail list is in good shape, evaluate the state of your social media profiles and make sure you know all of the domain names that your company owns. "It's important to remember, however, that it's only a first step," she explains. "If you have more digital marketing tools in your arsenal be sure to take the time to inventory all of those as well." Small Business Trends (1/21) LinkedInFacebookTwitterEmail this Story

  • Essential health benefits must be affordable, coalition tells HHS
The Essential Health Benefits Coalition, whose members include AHIP, has urged HHS to keep affordability for small businesses in mind when setting essential health benefits. "We think the administration in its final rule should focus on allowing more private-sector strategies to achieve greater benefit value and affordability and again avoid including benefits that are not commonly offered today," said coalition chairman Neil Trautwein. "If they're not commonly offered today, there's a reason and a rationale why they're not offered." The final rule is expected within the first quarter. • ACA money may be on the table in debt talks
Republicans and Democrats negotiating the nation's debt limit and budget could turn to Affordable Care Act funding when they look for places to cut. Potential actions include requiring 100% repayment of insurance subsidy overpayments, delaying Medicaid expansion and health insurance marketplaces, and blending the Medicaid reimbursement rate with that of other federal programs. • Carrots best sticks for wellness, but how much is just right?
Cash or other incentives are better than penalties in motivating workers to participate in wellness programs, experts told the Shape Michigan Expo in Grand Rapids, Mich. One industry expert said the "sweet spot" for employee incentives is between $250 and $600 per year but companies first must find out what will work with their staff. MiBiz (Michigan) (1/20)
  • Online enrollment, renewal make Medicaid more accessible
A total of 37 states now offer online application for Medicaid or the Children's Health Insurance Program. A survey by the Kaiser Family Foundation's Commission on Medicaid and the Uninsured found that four more states added online application from the previous year, and 28 states offer online renewal. States "are making significant advances to modernize the Medicaid enrollment process in 2014 to lower barriers to coverage and reduce administrative burdens for both families and states," the commission's Diane Rowland said.
