Apple is seeking to expand its patent infringement lawsuit against Samsung to include the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system. The suit already alleges Samsung violated its patents with its Galaxy Note 10.1 device. The move comes as Samsung sought to add patent infringement charges over the iPhone 5 in the same case. - AT&T set to sell Nokia Lumia and expand rural Internet access
AT&T is set to sell the Nokia Lumia 920 and 820 at price points of $99.99 and $49.99, respectively. The handsets will be available for pre-order on Friday. AT&T is also expanding its high-speed Internet service into more rural areas. "We have to invest in rural America. - Microsoft hits 52% gross margin with new Surface tablet
Microsoft earns a 52% gross margin on its new Surface tablets, outpacing the profit Apple is making on the iPad, according to a study from research firm IHS iSuppli, which estimated the manufacturing cost of the Surface at $284, meaning Microsoft makes $315 per unit sold. "From a hardware perspective, Microsoft has succeeded with the Surface, offering an impressive tablet that is more profitable, on a percentage basis, than even the lucrative iPad based on current retail pricing," said Andrew Rassweiler of IHS. The prospects of getting a Google Maps application cleared by Apple for iOS devices are apparently not good, The Guardian reports, citing sources at Google familiar with its mapping plans.
