- Blakey: Aerospace suppliers "extremely worried" about cuts
While aerospace sales are strong this year, chiefly due to civil sales, third- and fourth-tier suppliers are more vulnerable to sequestration fallout, says Marion Blakey, president and CEO of the Aerospace Industries Association. "Third- and fourth-tier suppliers are extremely worried about sequestration," said Blakey, speaking at the AIA's annual luncheon this week. - OMB to Pentagon: Get ready for sequestration
The Office of Management and Budget is telling the Pentagon and other federal agencies to prepare for the first round of sequestration cuts, a move that comes as the deadline for automatic cuts is just weeks away. "We don't want to go off the fiscal cliff, but in consultation with OMB we think that it is prudent at this stage to begin at least some limited internal planning," said Department of Defense spokesman George Little. - UK austerity program will cut military spending
The U.K.'s defense ministry will cut 1% from its budget next year and 2% the following, part of an austerity plan that follows a previous cut of 8% from the 2011-2014 period. To soften the blow, the defense ministry will be allowed to roll unused funds from this year into 2013. Defense News

- FAA, industry groups emphasize pilot response to stalls for training
The Federal Aviation Administration and other industry groups informing pilot training are calling for changes in stall training, a key aspect of pilot training critical for maintaining airplane safety. The FAA and the International Federation of Airline Pilots' Associations have updated their training information to reflect their latest stall-training recommendations. IFALPA, for example, emphasizes more thorough training to help pilots overcome the startle response. AIN Online

- SpaceX wins $262M in Air Force contracts
Space Exploration Technologies has won two rocket launch contracts with the Air Force worth a total of $262 million, its first such deals with the military. The company has a $97 million contract to provide a Falcon 9 rocket launch for a solar telescope in 2014 for the Air Force and a $165 million deal the following year. SpaceX has long sought to be a player in the military launch business. Reuters
