- Southwest has firm order for 31 Boeing aircraft, exec says
Southwest Airlines could buy more Boeing aircraft to help the carrier expand service, according to Brian Hirshman, senior vice president of technical operations. "Next year we have firm orders of 31 airplanes from Boeing, all -800s, and we're looking at is that enough or do we need to substitute that with some used airplanes," he said. Southwest is also the launch customer for the Boeing 737 MAX, which is due out around 2017. Reuters

- U.S. airlines compete for expanded service to Brazil
U.S. airlines are competing for expanded airline service to Sao Paulo, Brazil. An agreement with Brazil will allow 14 additional weekly flights this year, but U.S. carriers have applied for 28 additional flights. American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and US Airways have applied with the Department of Transportation to expand service. Travel Weekly

- American Airlines: TSA should reassess plan to allow small knives
American Airlines has added its voice to the growing chorus of critics of the Transportation Security Administration's proposed policy change allowing small knives in carry-on bags. "We encourage the TSA to reassess its proposed revisions to the prohibited items list," wrote Will Ris, senior vice president at American. Delta Air Lines and US Airways have also voiced concern over the TSA policy change. ABC News
