    Sprint Nextel reported a 6.4% rise in sales in the second quarter, mainly because of a bump in spending per subscriber to $63.38, which the company attributed to higher data use by its new iPhone customers. Sprint posted an overall loss of 246,000 contract subscribers in the quarter, as its Nextel brand shed 688,000 customers despite the Sprint brand adding 442,000.
