- Duffy: Futures markets a key link in chain of economic growth
In an election year in which job creation was at the center of much debate, one major factor that drew little attention was the ability of businesses to manage their risk, writes CME Group Executive Chairman Terry Duffy. "[I]t's our markets that help limit the costs that might be passed onto the consumer at the grocery store or at the airport. In essence, we help farmers plant more crops and help airlines fly more flights by allowing them to lock in a price for the commodities they're buying or selling," Duffy notes. OpenMarkets.com

- Andriesen: Commodity markets help agriculture keep the world fed
Global food security may not come to mind as a key function of commodity markets, writes Tim Andriesen, managing director of commodity products at CME Group. But markets are indispensable in their role of allowing the agriculture industry to hedge risk. Minus that, the industry's ability to keep the world supplied with foodstuffs would be greatly compromised. OpenMarkets.com
