  • AT&T unveils on-demand streaming service for U-verse subs: AT&T will launch Screen Pack, a $5 monthly streaming service that will house 1,500 films that U-verse TV subscribers can access from their TV sets, computers or mobile devices, the carrier said Monday. Executives said the new offering is not a response to competition from streaming services such as Netflix. "It's just one way to deepen the content opportunities that a customer has," said AT&T's Jeff Weber. In related news, Netflix has signed a deal with Warner Bros. to gain streaming rights to TV series "Revolution," "666 Park Avenue" and the forthcoming "The Following." • Buyout of Vodafone stake is feasible but not imminent, McAdam says
Verizon Communications CEO Lowell McAdam said Monday that the company has the ability to purchase all of Verizon Wireless, after failing in a 2006 attempt to buy the 45% stake owned by Vodafone. McAdam added, however, that Verizon had no plans to do so because the partnership was performing well. "I think [a deal] is feasible. Our wireline business is getting stronger and as that gets stronger, it makes it easier," he said. Also, McAdam told an investor conference that Verizon will likely incur one-time charges of up to $10 billion in the fourth quarter because of costs from Superstorm Sandy, pension obligations and debt restructuring.
